Woods Cross (Utah) outside linebacker Sean Barton committed to Stanford back in August. He is firm in his commitment, but Cardinal fans shouldn't expect to see him on campus next fall.
"Sean puts his mission papers in on January 15th," said Carl Barton (Sean's father). "He is doing that to hit Stanford's desired window of availability when he returns in 2015."
Barton has planned all along to serve his mission right out of high school and will return to Stanford in the fall of 2015.
"He will be taking his official visit to Stanford on the weekend of January 11th," said Carl Barton. "Sean was formally admitted to Stanford last July, the first player in the class admitted, and they have deferred his admission until 2015."
Even with a solid commitment to Stanford, other programs have continued to show interest.
"BYU and Utah have continued to maintain a lot of contact with Sean, knowing that a mission allows the recruitment process to start over," said Carl Barton. "They're good coaches and good guys."
